How is Hospice Paid for?
Hospice care is fully covered by Medicare, with no co-pays or out-of-pocket expenses for beneficiaries. The Veterans Administration also offers hospice benefits at no cost to veterans. Additionally, most insurance plans provide coverage for hospice services.
What Should I Expect?
You will have a meeting with a hospice professional who will explain all the details to help you make an informed choice. Your primary physician can remain involved, or you can opt for the Hospice Medical Director to oversee your care.
Your hospice nurse will collaborate with you to create a personalized treatment plan. This is a time for you and your family to make decisions about your care. Hospice services are delivered in the comfort of your home, with continuous communication from the hospice team, ensuring your needs are met 24/7.
How Do I Qualify for Hospice?
Hospice care is available to individuals with a life-limiting illness and a prognosis of six months or less if the illness follows its expected course. The patient or their representative must choose hospice care as an option, and the patient’s physician must certify eligibility. Usually, the patient’s personal doctor, in consultation with the hospice medical director, will make this determination.
